Teddy Swims accused of ripping off fashion brand Windowsen with Grammys outfit

Teddy Swims at the Grammys 2025

Teddy Swims has been accused of ripping off fashion brand Windowsen with the outfit he wore to the Grammys 2025.

The singer-songwriter and rapper was up for the Best New Artist award at last week’s ceremony, but lost out to Chappell Roan. Swims also took to the stage to perform ‘Lose Control’ from his debut album ‘I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1)’.

Yesterday (February 4), Windowsen – founded by Chinese designer Sensen Lii in Antwerp in 2019 – claimed that Swims had plagiarised one of its designs for his Grammys outfit, after the clothing company turned down a collaboration with the artist.

“NOT A WINDOWSEN. We would like an explanation,” the message began. The statement was accompanied by two side-by-side images, showing the similarities between Swims’ Grammys look and Windowsen’s pearl suit.

“The stylist of @teddyswims reached out to us via an Instagram DM and then emailed us in Jan 2025, seeking for support because he admired the design of our ‘pearl suit’,” the post continued.

“We clearly informed him it was a couture piece made for another artist – SILENCE WANG, in Nov 2024, and was worn by the artist in his China concert in Dec 2024. Since it was made specifically to order, it cannot simply be replicated.”

It added: “We were shocked to see this similar look appear on the 2025 Grammy red carpet worn by none other than Mr Teddy Swims last night. We do not appreciate this act and reserve the right to seek further action. Pls share and repost if you also value original creativity.”

Windowsen attached a screenshot of email correspondence between the brand and a member of Swims’ team last month.

The company declined the request to “support with this specific look”, with Swims’ assistant including a photo of the pearl suit in question. In response, Windowsen said: “We’d like to support, but this is a custom design for another artist’s concert costume.

“It has been sold so we don’t have it in the studio. Hope we can work together in the future!”

Swims has not yet commented on the accusation. See the images and message in the post above.

In other news, Teddy Swims is set to perform at the BRIT Awards 2025 next month. He is also nominated in the International Song Of The Year category for ‘Lose Control’.

Speaking to NME about the breakthrough single last summer, Swims explained: “The thing was, after we got it done, we knew it was going to change my life. I didn’t know it was going to change it like this. I didn’t know it was going to be this, but I knew it was going to work.

“But I think it was the first time that I felt honest. I was in a relationship at the time with somebody that I was running away from to be at that camp for a week. I was talking to [my collaborators] about stuff and they were trying to tell me to get out of this situation that was really rough for me.”

He continued: “I knew it was something I needed to listen to from my own heart. Sometimes, your heart’s trying to tell you something, and then you’re not quite there for yourself. Every day, still, that song shows up and I play it, and the further I go into that song, the more I’m like, ‘I’ve been there for myself the whole time, but I just wasn’t there for myself’.

“[It’s so easy] to tell somebody the advice they need to hear, but also you suck at giving yourself that advice. That song was something I just listened to myself on after I got out of that. The more I listened to it, the more I was like, ‘Man, I really need to trust my gut and the people around me that are helping me write this’.”

Teddy Swims is due to embark on a UK and Ireland arena tour next month, following a run of European headline shows. He’ll tour in North America this year too. Find any remaining tickets here (UK/Ireland) and here (North America).
