Teezo Touchdown responds to Kendrick Lamar namedropping him on ‘Not Like Us’
Teezo Touchdown has shared his thoughts on Kendrick Lamar namedropping him on his infamous Drake diss song, ‘Not Like Us‘.
Back in April, Drake and Lamar engaged in a high-profile feud where they delivered seething diss tracks back and forth at one another. The last jab sent by Lamar was ‘Not Like Us’ – which became one of TikTok’s Songs Of The Summer, topped the Billboard Hot 100 and became the most streamed hip-hop song in a day on Spotify.
In ‘Not Like Us’, Lamar rapped: “Man down, call an amberlamps, tell him, ‘Breathe, bro’ / Nail a nigga to the cross, he walk around like Teezo”
Talking to Billboard in an interview, Touchdown commented on Lamar namedropping him, revealing that he was in his own “bubble” and didn’t know the Compton rapper had done so until a later date. However, he maintained he was neutral and honoured to be in the same conversation as either rapper.
“I made a decision that I wasn’t going to listen to any of the back-and-forth,” he revealed. “I’m seeing a mob mentality, and I don’t like division. Sorry I’m so kumbaya, but it’s all love over here. [The simple fact they both] know who I am… it’s still one of those moments where you have to pinch yourself. The kid in Beaumont, I’m pretty sure he’s jumping through the roof right now.”
Drake has also praised the Texas native. Ahead of Touchdown’s long-awaited debut LP ‘How Do You Sleep At Night?’ – he dedicated a post to the rising star, writing in the caption: “Usually it’s a cut-throat cryptic caption for the ones that turned on the gang members but tonight I just heard some of the best music ever so I am happy and I will spare you little birdies thanks to @teezotouchdown.”
The two also worked together on ‘Amen’ from the Canadian rapper’s last album, ‘For All The Dogs’.
Recently, Drake teased in a cryptic post that there may be a sequel to his feud with Lamar. This comes after his affiliate, journalist and media personality DJ Akademiks, said that the 6God is currently working on new music.
Several high-profile rap legends commented on the Drake-Lamar conflict: André 3000 said it made him feel “a little sad,” and Questlove called the back-and-forth a “wrestling match-level mudslinging and takedown by any means necessary”.
More recently, Mustard – who produced ‘Not Like Us’ – branded Drake as a “strange guy”, while billionaire Michael Rubin banned the song from his annual party this year because the OVO founder was in attendance.
In other news, Touchdown created the bold pop-punk track ‘None Of Your Business’ for the Despicable Me 4 soundtrack.
