In an Instagram message thanking people for well wishes on his birthday, writer-director Damien Leone confirmed that another instalment in the Terrifier franchise is coming.
“The script for Terrifier 4 is under way and it is shaping up to be the most epic, horrifying, thrilling, emotional and satisfying conclusion to the Terrifier saga” he said.
“I’ve personally never been so excited to see one of my own scripts translate to the screen like this one. P.S. I will finally reveal Art’s origin in this entry”.
Terrifier 3 was a big independent hit in 2024, making $89.8million at the box office from a $2million budget. Art The Clown, played by David Howard Thornton, has become a horror icon on social media, with clips of him being used on TikTok.
The film wasn’t without controversy, however, as France banned anyone under 18 from seeing the film (the first time such a measure has passed in the country since 2006’s Saw III). The film’s UK distributor, Signature Entertainment, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that 11 people had walked out of the UK premiere, with one person vomiting after seeing the film.

In an interview with NME’s Martyn Conterio, Thornton reflected on the visceral reaction to the previous films, describing it as “wild” and “some of the best publicity you could get”.
The announcement of a fourth film comes after star Thornton was revealed to be playing a villainous version of Mickey Mouse in the horror film Screamboat. Band Ice Nine Kills, who wrote a song for Terrifier 3, have seen their streams rocket due to the success of the film.
