The 2025 Grammys will proceed as planned, confirms Recording Academy CEO

Despite the numerous delays that have swept the entertainment industry in the wake of the Los Angeles wildfires, the 2025 Grammys will proceed as scheduled.

Last week, the city of Los Angeles faced five wildfires concurrently, forcing the evacuation of over 150,000 residents, the destruction of countless homes and business, 24 confirmed deaths and 16 people missing.

Now, in a statement to members of the Recording Academy, group CEO Harvey Mason Jr. confirmed that the 2025 edition of the Grammys will take place on February 2 as planned. Per Rolling Stone, Mason Jr. said in the letter: “In close coordination with local authorities to ensure public safety and responsible use of area resources, the 67th GRAMMY Awards telecast on CBS on February 2nd will proceed as planned.”

However, besides continuing its run as the biggest night in music, Mason Jr. also confirmed that the ceremony this year will support the wildfire relief efforts: “This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours.”

Additionally, the Recording Academy and MusiCares on January 11 announced that they have launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort, and are donating US$1million to “provide both immediate relief and long-term support to individuals and families in the music industry facing displacement and loss due to the disaster.”

Universal Music Group has also confirmed that it will be cancelling all of its planned Grammy-related parties, and will instead “redirect the resources that would have been used for those events to assist those affected by the wildfires”. Their decision has prompted Paramore lead Hayley Williams to voice her support for Universal Music, writing in an Instagram story: “Respect”.

Warner Music have also pledged $1million to relief efforts focusing on “community wellbeing, music industry support, and equipping first responders with urgently needed resources”. In a statement to Rolling Stone, Warner has also confirmed that it would be cancelling its Grammy parties and would redirect those funds to relief efforts.

Meanwhile, other entertainment industry awards have announced the postponement of their own events following the Californian catastrophe. The Oscars have postponed the announcement of this year’s nominees two times, and will now reveal this year’s list on January 23. The ceremony itself will take place on March 3.

The Critics Choice Awards have also been postponed from its original date of January 12 to January 26.

As for the music scene in Los Angeles, a benefit concert for the victims has been announced. Dubbed FireAid, it will take place at LA’s Intuit Dome on January 30, with proceeds going to the rebuild program and to displaced families. No line-up has currently been announced.

Guitar Center has also announced a new program that will help musicians affected by the Los Angeles wildfires replace their instruments or gear.
