When asked when he would begin filming, Pattinson told Variety: “I think at the end of the year? And I know what it’s about but I can’t tell anyone, but it’s like, it’s very cool. It’s very exciting”.
The actor was speaking at the London premiere of his new film, Mickey 17, a sci-fi comedy from the director of Parasite, Bong Joon-ho. In the film, out March 7, he plays a man who takes a job on a space station undergoing dangerous tasks, only to be respawned after each death. NME will be hosting a screening of the film on March 4, with tickets available here.
Released in 2022, The Batman was a box office success, with Pattinson’s Dark Knight fighting to save Gotham from The Riddler (Paul Dano). The film’s popularity led to the Golden Globe-winning spin-off The Penguin, with Colin Farrell reprising his big screen role as the criminal kingpin.
This sequel is still in development but director Matt Reeves has been quoted as being interested in certain characters for the story. He’s enthusiastically talked about bringing a “grounded” version of Mr. Freeze to the screen, while elsewhere he has discussed the possibility of using the villain Hush.
The follow-up has been delayed to 2027, with DC Universe chief James Gunn recently remarking that the five-year wait is “fairly common”, pointing out that there were “7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars”.
Last month, Pattinson spoke about how he doesn’t understand the continual hate for his breakthrough movie, Twilight, asking critics: “Are you still stuck on that shit?”
