The Courteeners tease “something big”
The Courteeners have teased “something big” for tomorrow (July 9).
In a post on the band’s Instagram, captioned only “Tomorrow 6PM”, a number 17 bus flashes to read Middleton and Manchester, then simply “Out of service”. The smaller text above the destinations reads “Solitude of the Night Bus”.
While little else has been shared, fans are already speculating it could be the title of a new long-awaited album, particularly after they debuted two new songs – one of which being ‘Solitude of the Night Bus’ – at Lytham Festival on July 5.
Referencing their headline set in a new reel, frontman Liam Fray said: “Yes yes people, how are we all? Recovered from Friday yet – because I certainly fucking haven’t, but we’ll get there! Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everybody, it really was – felt pretty special that, you know, by the seaside.”
He continued: “We’ve got something big for you tomorrow at 6 o’clock, so be here.”
Speaking to NME at Glastonbury 2023, Fray explained that there were two new albums in the works.
“We’ve have the time to be afforded the chance to do anything we fucking want,” he said. “I mean that in the freest sense. Nobody has ever given us any constraints; that’s just me being conservative about what people really want.”
Fray continued: “I want to do two albums. One is fun and the other is piano, drum machines, a bit moodier. Don’t expect any hits off that one, but I know what will happen – they’ll be the hits and no one will give a fuck about the ones that I think are good.”
“The ones that are sleepers will be loved. But also, who cares? I love that idea from tonight of feeling so insignificant as part of Glastonbury. I’m going to try and transfer that to the rest of my life.”
In other news, Courteeners are scheduled to appear at Boardmasters and Victorious Festival in August and were named Band Of The Year at the inaugural Northern Music Awards back in April.
