The Darkness’ Justin Hawkins responds to viral footage of Taylor Swift singing ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’
The Darkness‘ Justin Hawkins has extended his thanks to Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce after a video of the pair singing and dancing to ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’ went viral.
The pop sensation was spotted alongside the Kansas City Chiefs tight end at the US Open over the weekend, which took place at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York.
The couple were watching the men’s single final at the annual tennis tournament from their private box when they were captured belting the lyrics to The Darkness’ 2003 hit.

The Darkness’ frontman has since watched the footage for himself and thanked the power couple for their enthusiastic display.
Posting to TikTok yesterday (September 9), the musician began by recalling his own experience at the ‘Eras’ tour with his daughter in Zurich, sharing that the “hospitality they showed us was extraordinary”.
“They put us in a lovely VIP area, I had Chris Rock on one side, Roger Federer on the other side, and I was just dad of the year,” he continued. “And to make matters even more spectacular, Taylor Swift actually sent me a lovely letter which was waiting for me in the VIP section, talking about how much she loves the song ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’.”
The artist then quipped that he was “dad of the century, because all of that was a big surprise”.
Hawkins went on that to explain that people began sending him videos of the now-viral moment of the ‘Fortnight’ singer at the US open this week, sharing it was “really heartwarming moment for me, and my little girl can’t wait to tell her friends at school”.
@mrjustinhawkins It was a lovely surprise waking up to a video of @Taylor Swift and @Travis Kelce singing along to ‘I believe in a Thing Called Love’. Thanks guys!
“So thanks Taylor, thanks Travis, thanks everybody who enjoys tennis, that’s a really lovely start to the day. Nice one guys. Cheers.”
Swift has made no secret of the fact that she’s a big fan of The Darkness’ signature hit. Back in 2016, she was featured in an advert for Apple Music, in which she lip-synced to the song and danced around a home office.
Speaking to Billboard about the advert at the time, Hawkins said: “I didn’t think we could get any sexier, but somehow Taylor raised the bar! Taylor Swift used to come to a lot of our shows back in the day. It’s good to see she hasn’t given up on her roots! Take it to the bridge, Swiftmeisteress!”
