The Driver Era Previews Breezy New Song ‘The Weekend,’ Reveal Who Is Most Likely to Forget Lyrics & More
The Driver Era is just a month away from dropping their newest album, Obsession, on April 11. To celebrate, Billboard caught up with brothers Rocky and Ross Lynch amid their global tour to get a preview of one of the project’s unreleased tracks, “The Weekend.”
“You know I can’t help it/ But if I’m being honest/ I can’t make you any promises/ Of forever and ever/ And I’m not saying never/ Let’s just see what happens for the weekend,” the duo sing over a thumping piano melody in the carefree song.
Ross explains that the song is about having no expectations with a romantic interest. “It’s this wanting to connect with someone and be close to someone, but also having a fear of commitment,” he tells Billboard. “So, it’s just like, ‘Hey, I’d like to grow close to you, but let’s not go too crazy about it. Let’s just enjoy the weekend and see what happens.'”
The brothers also played a “tour edition” of the game “Who’s Most Likely To?” with Billboard, where they revealed that Ross is most likely to forget lyrics, while Rocky is mostly likely to forget the city they’re in and keep the party going post-show, among other fun revelations.
Obsession marks The Driver Era’s fourth album, following 2019’s X, 2021’s Girlfriend and 2022’s Summer Mixtape. The upcoming project will feature previously released singles “You Keep Me Up at Night,” “Don’t Walk Away,” “Touch,” “Same Old Story,” “Don’t Take the Night” and “Can’t Believe She Got Away.”
