The ‘Home Alone’ house is back on the market – and here’s how much it costs
The iconic Chicago house used in Home Alone is back on the market for an exorbitant amount of money.
Built in 1921, the Winnetka, Illinois house has been listed for sale on Zillow and comes with five rooms and six bathrooms. Fully renovated and expanded in 2018 while still preserving its original look from the 1990 Home Alone film, the house is now fetching an asking price of US$5.25million, or GBP4.13million.
Pictures of the listing on Zillow reveal the massive house sitting on a half-acre plot of land that includes an indoor basketball court, a movie theater, a poker room and a statue of the movie’s star Macaulay Culkin in his iconic scream pose, constructed entirely out of Lego pieces.
The house previously went for US$1.58million or GBP1.24million in 2012. In 2021, the house’s previous owners put the house up for rent on Airbnb for just one day in conjunction with the Disney+ reboot, Home Sweet Home Alone.
For just one night, the house was booby-trapped like in the film, and was hosted by Buzz McCallister, the elder brother of Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin from the 1990 film. The Airbnb listing also included “plenty of Chicago’s finest pizza” and “a candlelit dinner of microwavable Kraft Macaroni & Cheese”, as well as a meet and greet with a tarantula and a LEGO Ideas Home Alone set to take home.
In a theee-star review of Home Sweet Home Alone, Nick Levine wrote for NME: “Fans of the franchise should probably persevere through a sluggish first half. This film is perhaps best enjoyed on Boxing Day afternoon with a full stomach and a full glass of eggnog.”
In other news, the film’s stars Macaulay Culkin and Catherine O’Hara reunited in December last year as Culckin accepted his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
