The Killers confirm new single ‘Bright Lights’, coming next week
The Killers have announced a new single called ‘Bright Lights’, set for release next week. Check out the snippet below.
The band began teasing the song earlier this week by sharing a string of teaser clips on social media. Fans got a glimpse of a glitzy new stage set-up in the videos, which also appear to preview their upcoming Las Vegas residency.
One of the posts contained a bold, pulsing guitar part and triumphant, echoed vocals from frontman Brandon Flowers. “Turn the bright lights on,” he sang. It also boasted piano and gospel-style backing vocals.
Last night (August 1), The Killers revealed a video featuring another portion of the track. In this upload, we see all four original members – Flowers, Dave Keuning, Ronnie Vannucci Jr. and Mark Stoermer – standing around a roulette table in a casino.
It is then revealed that ‘Bright Lights’ will be released next Friday (August 9). You can tune in here:
The group’s latest album, 2021’s ‘Pressure Machine’, did not feature any contributions from bassist Stoermer. Its predecessor ‘Imploding the Mirage’ (2020), meanwhile, saw guitarist Keuning sit out the recording sessions to enjoy some time at home.
In 2021, The Killers told NME they may all reunite on their next record for the first time since 2017’s ‘Wonderful Wonderful’.
Speaking to NME in late 2023, Flowers explained: “The goal has always been to get all four original members to take ownership and be proud of what we’re doing, but it’s so difficult with all four of us living in different cities.
“It’s not impossible. It’s weird to be talking to you about it, but I’d definitely like to do that.”
‘Bright Lights’ is due to arrive almost a year after Flowers and co’s previous single, ‘Your Side Of Town’.
Shortly after that track was released, Flowers revealed in an interview that he had scrapped a new Killers album.
“Halfway through recording I realised, ‘I can’t do this’,” he explained at the time. “This isn’t the kind of record… I think this will be the… I don’t think you’ll see us making this type of music any more.”
He continued: “This is the crisis I’m in. The Killers are my identity and our songs fill the seats, but I’m more fulfilled making music like ‘Pressure Machine’.”
The Killers revealed to NME in 2022 that they’d been in the studio with Stuart Price and Shawn Everett (who produced ‘Your Side Of Town’ and ‘Boy’), hinting that they hoped to release “a full record” that year.
The Killers will play their classic 2004 debut album ‘Hot Fuss’ in full over 10 nights at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, starting on August 14 and wrapping up on September 1.
This summer, the band embarked on their UK and Ireland ‘Rebel Diamonds’ greatest hits tour – including a six-night residency at The O2 in London.
