‘The Last Of Us’ will probably run for four seasons
HBO boss Francesca Orci has said The Last Of Us will probably run for four seasons.
The first season of The Last Of Us aired in 2023 and faithfully covered the events of the first game in the beloved franchise. A second season is due out later this year and now HBO’s drama chief Francesca Orci has spoken about the show’s future.
“We don’t have a complete or final plan, but I think it’s looking like four seasons. I wouldn’t want to confirm that, but it’s looking like this season and then two more seasons after this and we’re done,” she said (via Deadline).
Speaking shortly after the first season aired, showrunner Craig Mazin said the show could run for up to five seasons. “It can end up being three or five. But four seems like a good number. Some seasons, because of the story we’re telling, will need fewer episodes and some will need more. The best news is the audience wants more,” he explained. He went on to say they “will not indulge a desire for more simply to make [fans] happier.”
As it stands, there’s only one more game for HBO to adapt – The Last Of Us Part Two. Last year, Mazin told Deadline: “We don’t think that we’re going to be able to tell the story even within two seasons because we’re taking our time and going down interesting pathways which we did a little bit in season one too.”
Mazin also recently explained how the second season of The Last Of Us will differ from the games. “There’s not as much violent action moment to moment. It’s more about the drama. I’m not saying there’s no action here. It’s just, again, different priorities and how you approach it.”
Of course, The Last Of Us could go beyond four seasons if Naughty Dog creates a third game. They teased a continuation last year, with co-creator Neil Druckmann hinting at “one more chapter”.
In other news, the team behind Borderlands 4 has finally confirmed when the long-awaited sequel will be released via an explosive new trailer.
