The LCD Soundsystem Sub-Reddit has banned posts about The Dare to avoid “shitposting”
The LCD Soundsystem Sub-Reddit has announced that it will be banning posts about The Dare as a way to avoid “shitposting”.
Last week, a MOD announcement was made to the Sub-Reddit explaining that posts referencing The Dare – real name Harrison Patrick Smith – within the James Murphy and co discussion board “are getting a little ridiculous.”
“We understand The Dare is experiencing a huge come-up, what with his collab with Charli XCX and his recent album drop, but we fear if we don’t step in, the subreddit will devolve into shitposting about The Dare (especially during off-peak season for the gang),” read the message.
MOD ANNOUNCEMENT All singular posts about The Dare will be locked and removed

Shitposting has been described as the act of using some kind of online forum – such as Reddit or social media – to post content that is deliberately absurd, provocative, or offensive. Its general intent is to divert discussions or cause a big reaction with the least amount of effort.
The moderator went on to say that they believe the comparisons between both NYC acts have run its course and that all singular posts about The Dare will be locked and removed.
“Unless The Dare is touring with the band or doing a project with one of the band’s 68 different members, please keep any singular discussions of The Dare to more general topics like ‘What bands are similar to LCD Soundsystem’ or ‘Artists LCD Soundsystem influenced’ etc,” they added. “If you must, please move all singular comparisons and discussion over to r/TheDare.”
The ‘Dance Yrself Clean’ hitmakers and ‘Girls’ mastermind have been negatively compared to one another for years, with many saying that Smith rips off LCD’s sound and Murphy’s suit. “STD Soundsystem,” wrote one user in the comments of the post while another shared: “It’s weird he’s getting so many LCD comparisons where he sounds way more like Louis XIV & Peaches to me lol.”
The dare is like if you tried to copy lcd soundsystem while never having listened to talking heads https://t.co/Vyas5u17Pt

James Murphy woke up in a cold sweat imagining future The Dare and it made him so scared that he accidentally created the blueprint to for the exact hack shit that he feared. Irony!!! And that’s why the early LCD soundsystem stuff is good, it’s a machine that runs on self hatred

The Dare recently released his debut album ‘What’s Wrong With New York?‘. In a three-star review of the LP, NME shared: “So The Dare is nostalgia, pure and simple, from a musician born just too late to have pulled a stranger in a regie nightclub while a DJ in a V-neck tee played the Spank Rock remix of CSS’ ‘Let’s Make Love and Listen to Death From Above’. His debut album, ‘What’s Wrong With New York?’, trades on deliberately tinny beats, womping bass, shards of dissonant guitar and lashings of cowbell. He regularly shrieks and yelps as if he’s just signed a deal with DFA Records. If that sounds familiar, you must have heard an LCD Soundsystem song at some point in the last 22 years. He even wears a natty black suit like James Murphy.
“It’s tempting to tell Smith that Murphy wants his shtick back (along with his suit), but the pastiche is often effective, at least… Still, there’s something a little depressing about music that’s this nakedly backwards-facing. Beneath the hedonism, anxiety thrums through ‘What’s Wrong with New York?’ – hence, perhaps, Smith’s dream of his teeth falling out – and he’s clearly captured a wish to return to a time before Covid, before fake news, before bots and pile-ons and information overload. But you’d be better off just listening to LCD.”
In other news, The Dare is currently on his North American tour. Visit here for a full list of dates and any remaining tickets here.
