The Lonely Island reveal Justin Timberlake wasn’t actually singing on their iconic hit collab

The Lonely Island have revealed that Justin Timberlake never actually sang on one of their biggest hits.

The Saturday Night Live comedy trio – made up of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone – have teamed up with Timberlake on a number of occasions in the past, first on their famous ‘Dick In A Box’ sketch in 2006 and then on the video for ‘Jizz In My Pants’ in 2008, which featured on their debut album ‘Incredibad’.

But in a recent episode of The Lonely Island And Seth Meyers podcast, Schaffer confirmed that Timberlake didn’t actually sing on ‘Jizz In My Pants’.

“Timberlake helped us so much. I remember people online being like, ‘Timberlake’s singing with them at the end,’ because they probably also thought we couldn’t have possibly made it sound [good],” he said.

“I think that’s just Andy. I’m not even sure I’m singing it,” Taccone replied, to which Samberg interjected: “You’re not.”

“It’s just Andy,” Taccone continued. “But they just didn’t think we had the know-how to make it sound this good – which is right, in a way, because [Justin’s] the one that taught us.”

The trio also said that they couldn’t quite remember how his stint as a janitor of a grocery store in the song’s video even came about, but added that having his name attached to it gave it a “huge bump”.

“He did us a huge solid,” Samberg said. “I remember when this video aired, and we were still like, ‘I’m going to see every single thing that got written about us on the internet. I’m going to look at everything.’ And all the headlines were Justin. It got so much more attention … that’s how red hot he was.”

“The fact that he did it just to put his stamp on it, it’s hard to measure how huge it is,” Schaffer added. “It gave it a huge bump.”

Meanwhile, some of the trio’s hits were recently revisited on Saturday Night Live‘s SNL 50: The Homecoming concert with Samberg teaming up with Lady Gaga for a surprise performance of ‘Dick In A Box’.

Timberlake’s recent ‘Forget Tomorrow’ world tour meanwhile, has been beset by postponements due to illness and injury.

Last October, the singer postponed six North American shows after being diagnosed with bronchitis and laryngitis, just weeks after he called off another show in Newark just hours before stage time due to “an injury that is preventing me from performing”. In December, he then cancelled a show in Oklahoma City after sustaining a back injury.

More recently he also cancelled a couple of shows in Ohio. Later this year, Timberlake will head to the UK. Check out the full list of tour dates here and get your tickets here.
