The next ‘Batman: Arkham’ game is a VR exclusive
The next game in the beloved Batman: Arkham series iscoming exclusively to the Meta Quest 3 VR headset.
Batman: Arkham Shadow will be coming to the Meta Quest 3 later this year, with an official reveal coming June 7, 10pm, during the Summer Game Fest. It’s being developed by Camouflaj, the studio that made VR Iron Man, so it has experience with superhero games.
The teaser trailer shows a rat scurrying through the rainy streets of Gotham as Batman watches and swoops down, landing with a heavy thud before an entire swarm of rats flock toward him. Could the game feature some sort of rat plague like the one that was present in Dishonored?
It’s unclear where exactly this entry into the Arkham franchise is set in the games’ timeline. All the Meta blog post states is that this is “a new story set in the Batman: Arkham franchise”.
Upload VR notes that Arkham Shadow is the biggest exclusive announced for the Meta Quest 3 so far. It’s also the second Batman: Arkham VR game, with Arkham VR coming from Rocksteady Studios back in 2016.
Fans on Reddit have been praising the immersion in 2016’s Arkham VR and hope Arkham Shadow is “a bit more fully fledged.” However, a lot of fans over on the Batman Arkham subreddit aren’t happy this is a VR exclusive.
“I let out the largest sigh when I saw that this was for VR,” one wrote. Another posted, “Quest 3 only…..sigh.” Some are sad it’s skipping the Quest 2, as that’s the headset they currently own.
In other news, LEGO Fortnite is adding a new Star Wars world that will be available after the next update has been rolled out. It’s not a temporary addition either, so players will have plenty of time to get stuck in.
