The Wayans Brothers are reuniting for the ‘Scary Movie’ reboot

The Wayans Brothers are getting back together to pen the script for the upcoming Scary Movie reboot – find out more below.

In April this year, it was announced that the Scary Movie franchise was due to make a comeback with a revival from Paramount Pictures and Miramax. At the time, no other details were revealed about the planned reboot.

Now however, the franchise has received a major update with Marlon Wayans, Keenen Wayans and Shawn Wayans all returning to produce and write the script for the upcoming reboot. It will mark the first time in nearly 20 years that all three brothers have worked on the same project together.

Marlon broke the news on social media, writing: “WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.”

The Wayans Brothers created the Scary Movie franchise together. All three brothers penned the scripts for the franchise’s first two films, with Marlon and Shawn starring and Keenen directing.

The brothers said of their return via a statement to Variety: “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again.”

The Scary Movie franchise has spawned five films to date, premiering in 2000 and concluding in 2013 with Malcolm D. Lee’s Scary Movie 5. The first four films featured Anna Faris as lead character Cindy Campbell or Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks, while the fifth movie featured an entirely new cast led by Ashley Tisdale and Charlie Sheen. Actors and other famous personalities who have cameo appearances in the franchise include Kevin Hart, Mike Tyson, Lindsay Lohan, Snoop Dogg, Mac Miller and more.

Past films that have been spoofed in the five films to date include Scream, Evil Dead, The Ring, The Grudge, The Exorcist, Signs, Sinister, Saw and many others.
