Following Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of The Wheel Of Time books, a new video game based on the fantasy epic is in the works.

Robert Jordan’s Wheel Of Time series spans 14 books and a TV adaptation began airing on Amazon Prime Video in November 2021. A third season hit the streamer earlier this year and while a fourth season has yet to be greenlit, actor Josha Stradowski is “confident” about the future of the show.

Now Iwot Studios, one of the production companies involved in the Amazon show, has launched a new games division and announced plans for a The Wheel Of Time video game,

As reported by Variety, The Wheel Of Time will be an AAA open-world role-playing game (RPG) and will be developed by Iwot Games under the leadership of former Warner Bros. Games executive Craig Alexander. The studio has said it expects a three-year development process for the project, so don’t expect it to release before 2028.

According to Iwot, the game “will build on the global success” of The Wheel Of Time TV adaptation and will include “everything that is covered in the books, as well as all the backstory elements of it.” It’s a big undertaking because the 14 books feature more than 2,750 named characters.

“Adapting such a legendary mythology into an open-world RPG is a rare and ambitious challenge,” Alexander said. “It takes vision, scale, and a vibrant creative environment. I’m thrilled to lead the effort and build a world-class team capable of honoring this beloved world.”

The first Wheel Of Time book was published in 1990 and was originally meant to kickstart a trilogy. However 14 books and a number of prequels and companion novels were published in total, with the final entry in the long-running series coming in 2013.

Earlier this week it reported that Sydney Sweeney is teaming up with director Michael Bay to work on a big screen adaptation of vintage arcade racing game OutRun. Meanwhile Amazon is currently working on adaptations of Mass Effect and God Of War following the success of Fallout.

In other news, Bella Ramsey has admitted they were “fixated” on looking like the video game version of Ellie for The Last Of Us’ second season.
