‘The White Lotus’ finale had a sex scene with Piper and Zion that got cut
The creator of The White Lotus has said there was a scene cut from the show’s third season finale, where the character of Piper loses her virginity.
In the drama, Sarah Catherine Hook played Piper Ratliff, a college senior studying religion and the more sensible of Timothy and Victoria’s (Jason Isaacs and Parker Posey) children. While initially committed to pursuing a spiritual life in a monastery, she ultimately decides she cannot live without material comforts and returns to her family.
In a bonus episode of The White Lotus Official Season 3 Podcast, creator Mike White explains that he had a different journey planned for Piper, who would originally move in a separate direction to her brother Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger). While his partying ways were tempered, she would take more risks, including an intimate encounter.
“The part that was cut too, which is very disappointing, is that (Piper) decides to lose her virginity in the script in the last episode, and she actually has sex with Zion, which is Belinda’s son” he explained. “She’s like, ‘It’s true, Saxon’s right about this one thing, I need to get this over with.’ After she leaves the monastery, she’s just like, ‘I need to have sex.’ And she’s scoping the restaurant”.
The reason it got cut was for running time and tone “You know, it’s an hour and a half already, and it would have added like 10 minutes to the thing,” he said, adding: “It had a little bit of a romantic rom-com vibe in the middle of, you know, trying to kill the family with the pong pong fruits….It just felt like I was trying to do too much narratively”.
The season came to an end at the weekend, with fans shocked by the reveal of the body teased in the first episode, as well as the shooter. White has also revealed he wants to do an all-stars season of the show.
