‘The Witcher 4’ won’t have Geralt as the main character
The Witcher 4, currently codenamed Polaris, won’t have Geralt as the main character.
Speaking on the Fall Damage YouTube channel, Geralt voice actor Doug Cockle said: “What we know is that Geralt will be part of the game, we just don’t know how much, and the game won’t focus on Geralt.”
“It’s not about him this time”, he added. “We don’t know who it’s about. I’m excited to find out. I want to know. I have not seen any script yet. I mean, I couldn’t tell you if I did. This is the thing, so I could be lying through my teeth. But I’m not. Or am I?”
The most popular and believable fan theory is that the upcoming Witcher game will be about Ciri, Geralt’s surrogate daughter. She’s trained in the ways of the Witchers, and the lynx medalion.
At the moment, Polaris is being worked on primarily by developer CD Projekt Red. As of March, 2024 there were only 47 developers working on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, with 403 tackling The Witcher 4. Most large studios have multiple teams that take on different projects at different stages in the development cycle. Once Polaris is out the door, devs will likely be moved back onto the world of Cyberpunk, with just a small team left to start working on the concepts for the next Witcher.
In other news, GTA 6 is unlikely to launch on Game Pass day one. It is set to hit shelves sometime in autumn 2025
