It doesn’t look like Nintendo will be announcing any new games this Mario day, with no Direct mentioned as part of the celebrations.

Mario day is March 10 (AKA Mar10) with Nintendo always celebrating this annual event. However despite the Switch 2 coming out later this year, no new games are set to be revealed next week.

Announcing their plans for Mario Day, Nintendo confirmed discounts on a number of existing titles as well as a competition to visit Super Nintendo World in Florida. The Alarmo is being released on March 9 so you can wake up with Mario on his special day while gamers are invited to participate in a special Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 8 tournament.

Nintendo has also teamed up with Jetblue to give an Airbus A320 a Mushroom Kingdom-themed makeover. All the planned activities for Mario Day can be found here.

However no Mario Day Direct has been mentioned as part of the celebrations. Instead, Nintendo is keeping all the big announcements for its planned Switch 2 Direct which takes place next month.

The Switch 2 was officially unveiled earlier this year with a hardware-focused trailer. Another Direct is planned for April 2 at 2pm GMT where fans are hoping they’ll get information on launch dates, pre-orders and what new games are set to come alongside the bigger, more powerful console.

As it stands, no Nintendo Switch 2 titles have been confirmed yet though the announcement trailer did tease a new Mario Kart game while Pokemon Legends Z-A has been confirmed to launch on “Switch systems” rather than just the Switch.

The most recent Mario title was last year’s turn-based role-playing game Mario & Luigi: Brothership while Princess Peach also got her own game with Showtime!

In other news, The Last Of Us co-creator Neil Druckmann has given a disappointing update on the chances of a third game in the series.
