Third Man announce first Australian signing The Belair Lip Bombs
The Belair Lip Bombs have become the first Australian band to sign to Third Man Records.
The band released their debut album ‘Lush Life’ last year via Cousin Will, which will now be reissued on Jack White‘s label. Physical copies will be available to buy from October 18.
“Signing with Third Man has been a dream for us, particularly as the first Australian band on the label,” the band said. “Everyone at the label is a legend and it’s obvious how much love they put into each of their releases. We couldn’t be more stoked to be joining the Third man fam!”
The Belair Lip Bombs are working on their second album, which is expected to arrive next year.
Speaking about ‘Lush Life’ when it was first announced, frontwoman Maisie Everett said: “The album is titled Lush Life – these words are referenced a few times throughout the album. Themes or motifs explored in the album often involve a longing for something that isn’t there, but maybe not quite knowing exactly what that something is. The term ‘Lush Life’ sort of describes a picture perfect world where everything is easy (but doesn’t actually exist).
“I wanted it to be perfect, and we tried a lot of different things in the studio, in terms of melodies and harmonies. It was a lot of fun. I was playing in another band at the time and constantly on tour which made it hard to finish the album in a linear way. But I’m glad we took our time with it, because it’s turned out exactly how we wanted it.”
In a four-star review of ‘Lush Life’, NME wrote: “In The Belair Lip Bombs, Everett is front and centre, not just departing from [former band’s] CLAMM’s glowering post-punk but moving between a spirited range of styles.
“In fact, there’s an eclectic quality to debut album ‘Lush Life’ that might sound unfocused in another band, but Everett and company are so honed and controlled on each track that we’re brought right along for every swerve and sidestep. It helps that the songs are short and naggingly catchy, and that bassist Jimmy Droughton and drummer Liam De Bruin provide such unwavering momentum for Mike Bradvica’s versatile lead guitar and Everett’s equally varied vocal turns.”
