This classic ‘Star Wars’ game is still on track to get a remake
It seems like the remake of Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic is still in the works.
Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic was first released in 2003 but remains one of the most beloved Star Wars games ever made.
In 2021, it was confirmed a remake of the game was in the works, but it’s been a rocky road so far. Aspyr Media started work on the reimagined Knights Of The Old Republic before the project was put on hold the following year after two senior developers were fired. Saber Interactive, which had joined the project earlier that year, then took over.
A trailer for Knights Of The Old Republic was removed from the internet the same year due to an expired music license while a 2023 financial report from Saber Interactive made no mention of the game, with Embracer’s CEO Lars Wingefors refusing to comment on the status of the game.
The future of Knights Of The Old Republic looked even more uncertain when Embracer sold Saber Interactive to Beacon Interactive as part of a lengthy restructuring programme that included hundreds of lay-offs, studio closures and game cancellations. Despite rumours of Knights Of The Old Republic getting scrapped, Saber Interactive boss Matthew Karch confirmed the project was “alive and well” earlier this year.
In a new announcement, Embracer has confirmed two private equity firms have made a “significant investment” into the studio, which is now debt free. The investment will also be used to “accelerate growth initiatives”, with the press release also confirming the remake of Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic is part of the studio’s “exciting slate of upcoming titles”.

In a statement Karch said: “It’s hard to believe that Saber has been in business for nearly a quarter of a century. While we have grown to over 3,000 developers across the globe, we still feel like a startup with tremendous opportunity for rapid growth.”
The investment “is a testament to what Saber has built, and more importantly, to what we can still achieve in the coming years as creators and providers of some of the best game content in the world,” he added.
In other news, Hogwarts Legacy is set to receive a huge update later this year to make use of the new PS5 Pro.
