Tom Holland says acting opposite Zendaya has been his “saving grace”

Tom Holland has spoken about what it’s like to act opposite his girlfriend Zendaya, joking that studios benefit by saving money on hotel rooms.

The actor, who’s starred in three Spider-Man films alongside Zendaya, is set to spend a lot of time on set with her next year – filming both a fourth Spider-Man movie and a new film from Christopher Nolan.

He remarked on the Dish podcast hosted by Nick Grimshaw and chef Angela Hartnett yesterday (December 18): “Studios love it. One hotel room. Separate drivers. We’re not crazy now. Listen, it’s work, alright?”

Taking a more serious tone, he added: “Oh God, yeah. It’s a saving grace. Yeah, best thing that’s ever happened to me.

“It’s just that perfect thing when you’re on set and a director will give you a note that maybe you don’t agree with, or I know that she doesn’t particularly like, and it’s just that, like, familiar glance at each other of like, can’t wait to talk about that later.”

Last month, Zendaya told Vanity Fair that working with her boyfriend in a scene together feels “strangely comfortable.”

She explained: “It’s like second nature, if anything. You feel extra safe with the person you’re acting beside. I love working with him. He’s so talented, and so passionate about what he does. He always gives things one thousand per cent, even if he’s absolutely worn down. I really appreciate that about him. It feels pretty normal. That’s how we met. Literally, at a chemistry read.”

The couple is set to be part of a star-studded cast alongside Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron for Nolan’s new movie, which is currently set for release on July 17, 2026, with filming expected to commence next year.

Holland revealed on Dish that he still hasn’t seen the movie’s script, explaining: “It’s very hush-hush. He loosely pitched what it is. When he’s ready, he’ll announce what it is.”

Previously, he told Good Morning America that the call from Nolan offering him a part was “the phone call of a lifetime,” saying: “It was reminiscent of getting the call about Spider-Man 10 years ago. It’s an amazing thing for me. I’m super proud and I’m really, really excited.”

As for Spider-Man, Holland shared in October that he and Zendaya had read the “excellent” script for the next movie. He said: “I read it three weeks ago, and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’ But there’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it’s exciting.”
