Tom Selleck has opened up about the possible implications of Blue Bloods being cancelled.

The 79-year-old actor appeared on CBS Sunday Morning at the weekend, where he spoke about the long-running police drama.

Following reports last November that the show would end later this year after its 14th season had aired, Selleck spoke about its possible cancellation.

“Well, that’s a good question – I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” said the actor.

“We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast,” Selleck said. ‘We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back.”

He added: “I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know – you tell me!”

Selleck also opened up about how the reported cancellation would impact him as the owner of a 63-acre ranch in Ventura County, California.

“You know, hopefully I keep working enough to hold onto the place,” said Selleck, who plays New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan on the series.

When asked by the host if stopping working would be an issue for him, he said: “That’s always an issue – if I stopped working, yeah.”

The Friends actor added: “Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!’

He spoke about future work saying: “As an actor, you never lose – I don’t lose, anyway – that sense that every time I finish a job, it’s my last job”

He continued: “I like the fact that there’s no excuses! You just go to work and you do the work. And I have a lot of reverence for what I call “the work,” and I love it. And I’d like to keep doing it.”

The series finale of Blue Bloods is set to air in December 2024.
