Travis Greene & Forward City’s ‘Tent Revival’ Tops Gospel Airplay Chart
Travis Greene & Forward City’s “Tent Revival” featuring D’Nar Young jumps from No. 6 to No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart (dated July 8).
In the tracking week ending June 29, the collaboration increased by 22% in plays, according to Luminate.
The song makes the biggest flight to the top of the chart since January 2021, when The Group Fire’s “More Than Friends” also bolted five spots to lead for a week.
Greene solo-authored “Tent Revival,” his sixth Gospel Airplay leader, and co-produced it with Brunes Charles, Matthew Edwards and Reggie Rhett.
“Reaching the top of the charts is something I will never get used to,” Greene tells Billboard. “Having six No. 1s is something I could have never imagined in my career. ‘Tent Revival’ is the first single from our church’s music group Forward City, featuring the incredibly talented D’Nar. My desire has always been to push the genre forward, by writing and performing music that is enjoyable, yet uncommon. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude.”
Greene and his wife, Dr. Jackie Greene, are co-pastors of Forward City Church in Columbia, S.C.
For Greene’s longtime backing choir Forward City, “Tent Revival” becomes its first Gospel Airplay No. 1. It’s also the first leader for Young, who hails from Hopkins, S.C. Young initially became Greene’s videographer before joining him on tour as a vocalist.
Greene’s sixth No. 1 follows “Good & Loved” (featuring DOE), which dominated for a week in May 2021. His third of 11 Gospel Airplay entries, “Intentional,” awarded him his first No. 1 in January 2016.
Greene joins five other acts for the fourth-most leaders on Gospel Airplay, which launched in March 2005: Jekalyn Carr, Todd Dulaney, Charles Jenkins & Fellowship Chicago, Tasha Cobbs Leonard and Marvin Sapp. Tamela Mann leads with 10, followed by Kirk Franklin (nine) and James Fortune & FIYA (eight).
