Troy Baker’s Indiana Jones is proof Hollywood doesn’t need AI to “steal actors’ souls”, says Harrison Ford
Harrison Ford has once again praised Troy Baker’s Indiana Jones and claimed that it is proof that Hollywood doesn’t need AI to “steal actors’ souls”.
Harrison Ford played Indiana Jones for the fifth and final time in 2023’s The Dial Of Destiny. “Nobody else is going to be Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone,” he said while promoting the film.
However, new video game The Great Circle recreated Ford’s likeness for a story set between Raiders Of The Lost Ark and The Last Crusade while legendary gaming actor Troy Baker provided the voice.
In a new interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ford was asked if he’d “taken any steps to secure control of his likeness in preparation for a future when studios will be able to make movies using fully synthetic versions of famous actors at any age, even after they’re gone from this life.”
“You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent,” he replied before praising Baker’s performance in The Great Circle. “He did a brilliant job, and it didn’t take AI to do it.”
“There won’t be any need for me,” he added. “There’s somebody behind me. Doing what I did. And that’s the attraction. It’s what’s coming.”
Ford appeared alongside Baker at The Game Awards late last year. “I think this guy did a great job. If I’d have known he was so good, I’d have done it myself,” he said.
Speaking to NME, Baker confirmed that he hadn’t spoken to Ford while working on The Great Circle. “In the beginning, I was really worried about the comparisons,” he added. “Of course, I do sit here now and wonder if [Ford] would be proud but on set, I couldn’t do that. Indiana Jones doesn’t worry about being Indiana Jones.”
He went on to say that he initially turned down the job because “there are people that can do a better Harrison Ford impression than me,” but eventually said yes because he “just wanted Indiana Jones to be in the right hands.”
In other news, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 has launched a crossover with The Terminator and fans aren’t sure what to make of it.
