TV fans list the “worst final seasons” of all time
TV fans have listed the “worst final seasons” of all time – see what shows ranked on the list.
Reddit user ShadowJester88 ignited the discussion upon watching the fourth and final season of Umbrella Academy. To their disappointment, they called it a “let down”, adding: “A truncated season. An even shorter plot. A bunch of character sidelining, when there’s little runway already. Bad character choices. The list goes on.”
The post has since garnered over 3,400 upvotes and 3,700 comments discussing some of the worst finale seasons to have aired.
One user said the finale of That ’70s Show was “terrible”, continuing: “Topher Grace leaving was a nail in the coffin and not to mention Ashton Kutcher was barely there as well. All the new characters sucked and you can tell nobody cared and they were phoning it in. Terrible season to an otherwise excellent sitcom.”
Another user offered up the classic vampire series True Blood, writing that the final season did not deliver on the zombie vampires or love triangle set up in its penultimate season. “That zombie plot is irrelevant and solved off screen by episode 4, and we instead get a sick Bill begging Sookie to kill him,” they wrote. “Then she does and lives happily ever with… A random guy.
“A show that was built in sex, blood and a love triangle had a final season that barely included those things.”
Netflix series House of Cards, Showtime’s Dexter, and The CW’s The Flash also made the cut.
In NME‘s four-star review of Umbrella Academy‘s final season, we wrote: “Perhaps the most surprising thing about The Umbrella Academy’s last season is that Netflix have actually allowed it at all. Given the streamer’s history of abruptly cancelling beloved shows – Glow, The OA, Tuca And Bertie – we should be grateful The Umbrella Academy has even made it this far.
“The writers make the most of this opportunity by bringing everything to a satisfying conclusion which answers long-standing questions that span the show’s entire lifetime. The Umbrella Academy, we’re pleased to say, goes out with a weird, wonderful bang.”
