Twerking heroes have invaded ‘Marvel Rivals’ and fans are loving it
Developers have launched a new reward cosmetic for Marvel Rivals. which has led to footage of twerking superheroes going viral across social media.
Marvel Rivals launched late last year and quickly earned a huge, dedicated fanbase. The team-based superhero shooter sees players choose from a roster of comic book heroes and villains, before trying to take down their opponents team.
Late last week, developers Netease announced a new, limited-time event that would reward players with the Symbiote Boogie emote, that would allow anyone playing as Venom to twerk. ”April Fools is just around the corner, Rivals – and the smoothest symbiote in the Multiverse is ready to celebrate,” explained Netease. “That’s right, it’s not a joke – finish Galacta’s Cosmic Adventure and collect all 24 rewards on the path to unlock the Symbiote Boogie emote… because nothing says ‘cosmic chaos’ like watching your hero bust a slimy move on the battlefield.”

The event went live earlier today (March 31) and runs until midnight BST, April 4. But Marvel Rivals’ players are already having a lot of fun with twerking superheroes. “There is literally no reason to play Overwatch anymore,” one fan wrote on X. “If i see a Venom player kill my supports and then TWERK on me i might just uninstall,” warned another. “Slay,” wrote a third.
“I would like to apologise in advance to my team once the Venom emote drops,” another player wrote on Reddit. “I WILL be swinging to the enemy spawn and twerking at them just before the match starts and a little after the doors open. Will I get shot? Probably, haters will always be jealous Will I always make it out alive? Maybe not, but the price of cake is worth it!”
“Twitter has taught me that Venom twerking is fine but She-Hulk twerking isn’t. Make it make sense,” wrote another fan after a dancing scene from Disney+’s She-Hulk: Attorney At Law series got heavily criticised.
Marvel Rivals first season, which added The Fantastic Four to the game, is due to end next month. On April 11, the second season will begin which will see two more playable characters made available.
Earlier this year game director Guangyun Chen confirmed a new hero would be added to Marvel Rivals every six weeks, alongside “fresh seasonal stories and new maps”.
In other news, Microsoft has confirmed seven new titles will be coming to Xbox Game Pass next month including a couple of big Day One releases.
