U.S. Olympian Caeleb Dressel relaxes with ‘Super Smash Bros.’ videos in ice bath
Caeleb Dressel, a gold medal-winning Olympic swimmer was spotted cooling down in an ice bath and watching Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on his phone.
27-year old Dressel is a nine-time Olympic gold medalist but he still has time for some fun hobbies. As reported by Dexerto, a viewer spotted him watching Smash in the bath on NBC‘s broadcast of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“Watching the Olympics with my mom and CAELEB DRESSEL IS WATCHING YEET SMASH IN THE ICE BATH BETWEEN RACES LMAOOOO,” wrote Twitter user justinbyleth. Dressel can be seen intently watching what appears to be tournament footage, skipping through logos and loading screens to get straight into the fight while he cools off in an ice bath.

In a 2019 interview with People, Dressel said “We play a lot of Nintendo games, a lot of Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., a few different card games, really just stuff so we can stay loose and get your mind off of swimming before going into the meet with full focus.”
Playing games where you compete in races and fights just before competing in real life races and fights may not seem like everyone’s idea of relaxation, but it is for these athletes. Super Smash Bros. creator Sakurai recently revealed that all the fighters have a nearly equal chance of winning. All 87 characters have a roughly 50 per cent chance of winning, with just 4.25 per cent between the best and worst.
A lot of Olympians have been seen showing off their hobbies and interests this Olympics. Many athletes have performed moves based on anime or video game characters, and a breakdancer did some hand moves seen in K-pop song ‘Magnetic’, by Illit.
In other news, the CEO of the game company that publishes Borderlands has commented on the film’s lacklustre reception.
