U2 announce ‘ZOO TV – Live In Dublin’ EP from 1993
U2 have announced that they will be releasing the ‘Zoo TV – Live In Dublin’ EP from 1993.
The EP will be comprised of five tracks which were recorded at their show at the RDS in the summer of 1993. The outdoor gig marked their hometown stop while on the band’s European Zooropa leg of their groundbreaking ZOO TV Tour.
Bootlegged copies of the RDS show audio have been in circulation and sought-after for years. This will be the first official release of the EP, making it a highly covetable collectable for fans and collectors alike. ‘Zoo TV – Live In Dublin’ is set for release on August 30 and is available for pre-order here.
U2 ‘ZOO TV – Live In Dublin 1993’ EP tracklist is:
1. Zoo Station
2. Mysterious Ways
3. Tryin’ To Throw Your Arms Around The World
4. Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
5. Love Is Blindness
Created in support of their 1991 LP ‘Achtung Baby’, U2’s Zoo TV Tour saw the Irish band perform at arenas and stadiums from 1992 to 1993. The tour was an elaborately staged multimedia spectacle, satirising television and media oversaturation by attempting to instill “sensory overload” in its audience done in effort to mirror the band’s new musical direction seen on the album.
A worldwide live radio broadcast of the August 28 RDS, Dublin show also allowed roughly 700 million fans around the world to tune in with a very ZOO TV invitation to “Watch More Radio.” They played to roughly 5.3 million fans over 157 shows and 5 legs. During that same period, U2 also recorded and released ‘Zooropa’.
In other news, Moby recently shared that Bono and Pantera were the best people to party with back in the 90s.
Speaking to NME, Moby said: ” “During that time, I got drunk and did drugs with everyone! So the best were Pantera and [U2 frontman] Bono. I had a couple of great nights out in Texas with Pantera. I tried to play a cover of a Pantera song with them in the audience – I butchered it! Bono was a wonderful guy to drink with. He’s generous, kind, and fun. In 2002, I was trying to buy a fancy apartment and Bono wrote my co-op board application letter. Not kidding!”
Elsewhere, U2 sent Taylor Swift a bouquet of flowers ahead of her gigs in Dublin last month. “Welcome back to our hometown… leave some of it standing?!!!!” read a note attached to the flowers which was signed by her “fan club” — Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.
