Unknown ‘GTA 6’ release date is causing delays with rival games
Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most highly anticipated games of all time, and some publishers are reportedly delaying commiting to autumn 2025 release dates because they don’t want to compete with the upcoming behemoth.
According to Bloomberg, “anticipation is so high that some competing game publishers are waiting as long as possible to commit to their release dates for the fall, according to people familiar with their deliberations who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly”.
All we know about GTA 6‘s release window is that it’s set for autumn 2025: “The publishers want to see whether GTA 6 will make its deadline or slip into 2026, these people say, and they’re determined to keep their own games far, far away.”
November has historically been the busiest period in the year for new game releases, with giants like Call Of Duty launching then to capture attention before the holiday and gift-giving month of December. With GTA 6 so anticipated and the series always historically selling well, it’s no surprise other publishers are nervous to compete with it.
The first trailer for the game was released a year ago, with one fan saying: “Please don’t tease us any more.” Another wrote: “I personally am hoping something will come out this month, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we have to wait until early 2025 for any news.”
The company is still building hype for the upcoming game, though. Rockstar publishing director David Manley said: “There’s an incredible amount of people doing amazing things on Grand Theft Auto 6, absolutely mind-blowing things.”
Ben Hinchliffe, a developer who worked on the game before leaving Rockstar commented: “I just think it will blow people away. It will sell an absolute ton as it always does. People will be talking about it for ages afterwards just like they did with GTA 5.”
In other news, Henry Cavill’s Warhammer series is going ahead, but it will be years before it airs.
