Valve trademarks unannounced hero shooter ‘Deadlock’

Valve‘s worst-kept secret, hero shooter Deadlock, has more evidence suggesting its existence as a trademark for “on-line computer games” has been filed by the PC games company.

A rumour in all but name, Deadlock is an upcoming hero shooter that’s been the subject of many leaks. According to people who claim to have playtested the game, it’s a mix of Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, and Dota 2.

The recent trademark filing for Deadlock was spotted on Twitter by a user called Gabe Follower, named after Valve co-founder and President Gabe Newell. As noted by PC Gamer, Gabe Follower had been sharing numerous details about the game, apparently previously known as Neon Prime and Citadel, before saying they had to stop talking about it “completely.”

Despite all the leaks and substantial rumours, Valve hasn’t released any statements or official news about Deadlock, a game which has potentially been in development since at least 2019. It’s a private company, meaning it isn’t beholden to public shareholder reports where it reveals what it’s got in the pipeline years to come. As such, it’s quite common we don’t know what Valve is really doing until it decides to tell the world itself.

Recently, Steam Support revealed that Steam users cannot transfer their account or virtual games library to friends or loved ones after they die, stating “your Steam account cannot be transferred via a will.” This is sad news for players who have ammased hundreds, even thousands of games over the course of their lives, and prompted one person to write, “Your backlog dies with you”.

In other news, God of War Ragnarok is coming to PC, but players will need a PSN account to play it, showing Sony hasn’t learned from the Helldivers 2 controversy it had recently.
