… in this room, leaders, artists, visionaries. It’s Women’s History Month, and we are starting it off, right? I remember how you were a little girl, and you were too shy to tell your teacher that you did not have a seat so you sat with your knees bent and legs crossed and pretended that you had a chair. Baby girl, not only today do you have a seat at the table, but it’s front and center as you’re inspiring young ladies to find their voice in music. Your journey is a source of tremendous pride and inspiration. Your achievement tonight is a testament to your remarkable abilities and the indelible mark, you’ve left on the world today. Congratulations. I love you. Thank God for all you’ve done for us. And the best is yet to come!

Victoria Monet:
Oh my God. I’m sorry, it’s one thing to receive an award, but to receive it from someone you’ve known your whole life is really awesome. Thank you so much for being here, Mom. So when I think about what a star is, I know the definition is something like a self-luminous thing, a self-luminous thing that radiates by energy derived from its own internal sources. So some of those sources I kind of reached for internally were probably, God, passion, hard work, focus. But I also know that when you look at any star, it’s surrounded by millions of other stars in the night sky — and that’s all of you. There’s so many stars in this room, behind the scenes, in front of the curtains, and so I want to shout out to all of you women in here who are sometimes doing the thankless jobs. All these women behind the scenes doing it, making all this stuff happen — shout-out to you guys. Shout-out to you in the chairs. I’m fully aware that not every star can be seen by the naked eye.
