Victoria Monét’s ‘On My Mama’ Crowns Adult R&B Airplay Chart
The radio success story of Victoria Monet’s “On My Mama” continues as the song reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart dated March 9. The single, released through Lovett/RCA Records, advances from the runner-up rank to crown the list as the most-played song on U.S. adult R&B radio stations in the tracking week of Feb. 22 – 29, according to Luminate.
“On My Mama” essentially remains even in its play count for the tracking week but captures the No. 1 rank because the previous week’s champ, Tyla’s “Water,” slips to No. 3 through an 11% drop in plays in the tracking window. The radio coronation builds upon a win streak for Monet, who won the Grammy Award for best new artist (on Feb. 4) and will receive the Rising Star honor at the Billboard Women in Music event on Wednesday (March 6).
Notably, as “On My Mama” continues the unbroken streak of lead women artists at No. 1 to begin 2024. The year, based on chart dates, began with a seven-week run (of eight total weeks in charge) for Mary J. Blige’s “Still Believe in Love,” featuring Vado, before “Water” took the title for two weeks. The 10-week sweep is the best domination for lead women artists atop Adult R&B Airplay from the start of the year, since 2019, when a combination of Queen Naija’s “Medicine” (one week), Ella Mai’s “Trip” (nine) and The Bonfyre’s “Automatic” (four) kickstarted the year with a 14-week block.
With its Adult R&B Airplay triumph, “On My Mama” secures its status as a multi-format hit. The single ruled the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart for two weeks in November 2023, but even months after its peak, is still in the mix: It rises 11-9 on the latest list, with a 1% increase in plays during the latest tracking week. On the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, which ranks songs by combined audience from adult R&B and mainstream R&B/hip-hop stations, “On My Mama” holds at No. 4, though it added 1% in audience totals to reach 16 million; the song reigned for two weeks last December.
Plus, “On My Mama” keeps making inroads on the Pop Airplay chart, where it sits at No. 23 for a third straight week. Although it has no change in rank, it registered a 3% boost in plays.
