Watch Billie Eilish and Finneas perform “one of our favourite songs we’ve ever written” on NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk’
Billie Eilish and Finneas recently performed on NPR Tiny Desk and surprised fans with a call back to her debut LP. Watch the video below.
Yesterday (December 12) marked Eilish’s first Tiny Desk Concert since 2020. Joined by her brother and long-time collaborator Finneas, she performed four acoustic tracks, telling the small audience in Washington it was a “nerve-wracking” moment for her.
“This is so cool,” she added. “I’ve wanted to do this my whole life, so I’m a little shaky.”
She performed stripped-back versions of ‘The Greatest’, ‘L’Amour de Ma Vie’ and ‘Birds Of A Feather’, with the latter recently named as the 12th best song of 2024 by NME.
All three songs were taken from ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’, which was also named in NME’s list of the Best Albums Of 2024, coming in at Number Nine. But Eilish surprised fans with a deep cut, and sang ‘I Love You’ from her debut LP, ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’.
“This is one of our favourite songs that we’ve ever written,” she said of the 2019 track. “It was the first time I fell in love and it was very scary. It’s funny how that fear never goes away, that fear of falling.”
Elsewhere, the pop star spoke to Anthony Mason about her current tour in support of her third album, which sees her hit the road without Finneas and her parents for the first time.
During a conversation with CBS News, she admitted: “I’ve never done a show without my brother in my life. I mean, I’ve barely performed and sung without my brother, like never. I don’t have my parents on the road. I mean, they’re coming out to visit, and that’s been amazing. But I don’t have the same kind of structure that I had before.”
When asked by Mason if she had to prepare herself to embark on tour without her brother, the ‘Chihiro’ singer said: “Yes, we talked about that happening like two years ago and it’s been a known thing within our family for two years.
“We were like, ‘Oh no, it’ll be great,’ and it’s what’s right, and whatever. And then, two weeks until I was gonna leave came, and we were both getting a little sad and just bittersweet, and emotional.”
Meanwhile, Rihanna may be a new collaborator for Eilish, and told Access Hollywood that she would love to collaborate with the ‘Birds Of A Feather’ singer in the future. Speaking to Complex about the comments, Eilish said: “I literally thought it was AI, first of all… I’ve never met Rihanna. She’s literally my idol. She’s the greatest of all time. She’s my complete dream collab.”
