Bruce Springsteen, Flea, Karen O, Michael Stipe, Johnny Depp and more have led an all-star jam with Patti Smith at her tribute concert in New York – check out footage from the show below.
Last night (March 26), New York’s famed Carnegie Hall hosted the People Have the Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith tribute concert, featuring a star-studded line-up of musicians paying homage to the legendary Patti Smith.
People Have The Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith is a Music Of benefit concert that will donate 100 per cent of its net proceeds to music education for underserved youth.
At the show, Bruce Springsteen and the night’s house band led by Tony Shanahan, a longtime member of Smith’s band, along with Flea and Rolling Stones tour drummer Steve Jordan, performed a rendition of ‘Because The Night’ – which you can watch footage of below.

Elsewhere during the gig, the likes of Matt Berninger, Kim Gordon, Michael Stipe and more performed, while other A-listers such as Scarlett Johansson, Michael Shannon, Jim Jarmusch and Sean Penn made appearances to read Patti’s poetry. Karen O also performed a cover of Smith’s 1975 classic ‘Gloria’.
Another huge name who performed but was not announced for the show was actor-musician Johnny Depp, who joined Flea and The Kills‘ Alison Mosshart for ‘Dancing Barefoot’. Check it out below.

To close out the star-studded celebration of the iconic Patti Smith, Smith herself made an appearance to perform ‘People Have The Power’ with nearly every guest performer of the night joining her onstage.

In other news, Patti Smith has announced a run of special gigs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her debut studio album, ‘Horses’ across Europe, the UK and the US later this year.
The special ‘Horses’ gigs have been scheduled for seven European cities: London, Dublin, Madrid, Bergamo, Brussels, Oslo and Paris. The live dates in the capital are due to take place at the London Palladium on October 12 and 13. See the full list of dates and get any remaining tickets here.
