Watch Deftones’ Chino Moreno join Smashing Pumpkins in Portland for ‘Jellybelly’
The Smashing Pumpkins were joined on stage by Deftones’ Chino Moreno in Portland this week for a version of ‘Jellybelly’ – check out footage below.
Billy Corgan and co. are coming to the end of an extensive North American tour, some dates of which have been part of Green Day’s ‘Saviors’ tour, while others have been headline shows.
At one of the ‘Saviors’ shows in Portland, Oregon on Wednesday (September 25), Moreno joined the group for ‘Jellybelly’, a deep cut from 1995’s ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’.
Watch fan-captured footage of the collaboration here:
Moreno has appeared on stage with the 90s band before, during their huge 30th anniversary show in New Jersey in August 2018, where they played versions of ‘Bodies’ and ‘Snail’.
The Pumpkins released a surprise album ‘Aghori Mhori Mei’ last month, their 13th studio record in total. It came out exclusively as a digital release, with a physical release to follow on November 22.
Deftones, meanwhile, announced a new North American tour with The Mars Volta for 2025, their first headline stint since 2022. It kicks off in Portland on February 2025, ultimately wrapping in Boston on April 8. Tickets are on sale now – get yours here.
This year has seen Deftones perform at Coachella, Primavera Sound and Lollapalooza. Last month, the band joined System Of A Down and The Mars Volta for a huge sold-out event at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
In September 2023, Deftones teased an upcoming full-length album – potentially slated for a 2024 release – which would follow on from 2020’s ‘Ohms’. Guitarist Stephen Carpenter said at the time that the group were “starting to work on new material for a new record”.
This April, Deftones gave fans an update on their new LP. “[We] have a whole record recorded all musically,” explained Moreno. “And it’s pretty much my job right now to finish up the vocals.”
But the vocalist said he didn’t want to “put a definite timeframe” on the album’s release, adding: “We’re not really in a rush. We want it to be great. I think that’s most important. But it is coming, and, yeah – it’s really good.”
