Watch Fred again.. chat with “one of my absolute heroes” Nardwuar about Four Tet, Brian Eno and more
Fred again.. is the latest guest of Nardwuar The Human Serviette, whom he calls “one of my absolute heroes” as they chat about Four Tet, Brian Eno and more. Watch the video below.
The clip, shared on YouTube yesterday (October 14), sees the producer with the veteran music journalist and on-screen personality in his native Vancouver, Canada.
The 56-year-old is best known for his deep-dive questions and disarming personality, and he often unveils gifts for his guests that help uncover obscure facts and stories about them. “I was so ready for you to fuck with me. But… you’re still going way beyond,” a blushing Fred again.. tells Nardwuar later in the video.
Fred is first presented with an album by Latin jazz legend Tito Puente (which is revealed to be tied to Fred’s relationship with his father) and a Fat Boys vinyl record packaged like a pizza.
During the conversation, Nardwuar discusses with Fred about finding sounds that resemble a “cello made of trains” with Eno (“You definitely spoke to Brian! I hope you [both] had a nice time,” remarked Fred). He adds that Eno also turned him on to Underworld, which he managed to see live with Skrillex at Alexandra Palace.
“Sonny walked in and was like ‘This is the rarest crowd dynamic I’ve seen in years,’” Fred recalls. “Phoneless, present, in it, it was all feeling loose in the best possible way.”
Nardwuar also discusses with Fred about Four Tet’s former post-rock band Fridge: “I think he’s got this very exploratory, childlike mindset, which makes everything he does have this kind of through line to me,” he says. “I think he could do 20 different bands and it would all have the same sort of Kieren-ness to me.”
Towards the end of their conversation, Fred presents Nardwuar with a card he calls a “cardwuar” with a message expressing his gratitude as a fan of his work. “Thank you for inspiring a sense of wonder in me & all my friends and for being such a rare example of aaaalways being so uncompromisingly yourself in every room you’re in,” it reads.

Fred again.. shared a clip from the interview on Instagram, stating that Nardwuar is “one of my absolute heroes so im jus honoured to have been in a room with him”.
In NME‘s four-star review of Fred again..’s ‘Ten Days’, Rhian Daly writes: “It would be easy for Gibson to take the attention and acclaim surrounding him and return on this album with by-the-numbers, floor-filling bangers.”
“Instead, he pushes deeper and comes up with something that’s both poignant and fun in equal measure – a solid gold record that leans into the little moments and produces pure, emotional magic that will ensure many more “biggg mad crazy” times in Fred Again..’s future ahead.”
