Watch Grupo Frontera Sing Stirring Ballad ‘Ya Pedo Quién Sabe’ on ‘Tonight Show’
Grupo Frontera delivered an emotionally charged showcase of their single “Ya Pedo Quién Sabe” on Thursday night’s (April 4) Tonight Show. Proudly representing the Rio Grande Valley by performing in front of a neon 956 sign — the area code of the borderland region they’re from — the band appeared rocking their usual black cowboy hats, with frontman Adelaido “Payo” Solís wore a varsity bomber jacket.
The song — originally featuring mariacheño superstar Christian Nodal — whose title roughly translates to “when drunk, who knows” is about leaving a situation behind that no longer serves us. It also weaves in the vulnerability experienced in love, exacerbated while being pedo. “But drunk, who knows/ One of these days, maybe I’ll call you/ And with a few tequilas on top/ I miss you up here/ And you know that,” Payo sings in Spanish against accordion riffs.
Written by Edgar Barrera, Horacio Palencia, Nathan Galante, and Diego Bollella, and produced by Barrera, the song captures the essence of Grupo Frontera, channeling their Tejano swagger.
On social media, the six-piece troupe demonstrated their gratitude for the performance slot on the iconic late night show, in a tweet, writing, “We had an amazing time, thank you very much for the evening @jimmyfallon ✌🏼🤠🎶.”
Grupo Frontera stands at the forefront of the new Tejano movement, following in the footsteps of legends such as Intocable and Selena. Their meteoric rise to fame over the past year includes eight entries on the Billboard Hot 100 and numerous chart achievements. Collaborations with stars including Bad Bunny, Fuerza Regida, and most recently Shakira on “(Entre Paréntesis)” — from her latest album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran — have further solidified their rising position in the music industry.
“Ya Pedo Quién Sabe” is their latest single from the group’s upcoming album, due later this month. Watch Grupo Frontera’s full performance on The Tonight Show above.
