Watch Lady Gaga perform ‘Abracadabra’ and ‘Killah’ on ‘SNL’

Lady Gaga gave eye-catching performances of two tracks from her new album ‘Mayhem’ on Saturday Night Live last night – watch below.

The singer was pulling double duty on March 8, hosting the show as well as serving as the musical guest, and with it coming just a day after the release of her seventh record, she took the chance to show off two of its songs.

The first was the single ‘Abracadabra’, which saw Gaga transfixed in a mutant dance number from inside a claustrophobic neon structure, surrounded by angular support dancers. Watch here:

The second was the funk rock-inspired ‘Killah’, which she began in the backstage corridors of the famous Studio 8H, before taking the stage with a full live band. The track, reminiscent of ‘Young Americans’-era David Bowie, saw Gaga thrashing along at the drumkit before letting out a guttural rock howl at the climax. See that performance here:

It was Gaga’s fifth time performing on the long-running sketch show and her second stint as host, and it comes just weeks after she also appeared on its 50th anniversary celebrations. On that broadcast, she teamed up with Andy Samberg for a surprise medley of Lonely Island hits, including ‘Dick In A Box’.

NME have awarded ‘Mayhem’ four stars, noting: “Ultimately, ‘Mayhem’ feels like a great Gaga album because it’s just so much fun. At times, it’s a bit like reconnecting with an old friend who makes sense even when they seem to be chatting nonsense.”

“When she sings “river in my eyes, I’ve got a poem in my throat” on ‘LoveDrug’, it’s just her overblown way of saying she’s sad and tongue-tied. Seventeen years after she broke through with ‘Just Dance’, Lady Gaga remains pop’s foremost agent of impeccably crafted chaos.”

Lady Gaga has also delighted fans in Mexico by announcing that she will be performing in the country for the first time in 13 years. The pop icon will be taking over the Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City on April 26, and it is expected to see multiple songs performed from the ‘Mayhem’ tracklist.

The news of that show arrived shortly after the ‘Paparazzi’ hitmaker announced that she would be performing a monumental free show to over a million fans at Copacabana Beach in Rio in May.
