The collaborations came about during Romy’s two ‘Club Mid Air’ nights at the Camden Town venue in the capital on April 10 and 11.
On the first of the shows, there was a mini-xx reunion between Romy and Sim, who performed a mashup of the latter’s song ‘Fruit’ and the former’s ‘Enjoy Your Life’.
“Last night Club Mid Air in London was extra special to me because I was joined by an extra special guest Oliver!” Romy wrote in an Instagram post after the show.
“My love, I’ve missed singing with you, I love you and thank you,” she added. “Thank you to everyone who came and made it such an incredible night.”
On last night’s second show, Romy was joined by Shygirl, where they performed a mashup of Romy’s ‘The Sea’ and Shygirl’s recent single ‘4eva’. Watch fan-captured footage of below.
Romy was also recently joined by Peaches on stage in New York City, for a version of ‘Did I’ on March 29. The two also combined on a new remix of the song, with an extra new verse from Peaches.
That song is taken from her debut solo album ‘Mid Air’, released last year. In a five-star review of the record, NME said: “Many of these songs will give you a prick of emotion at the back of your eyes – a sure sign that Romy really appreciates the healing power of a packed club floor.”
Meanwhile, Romy revealed to NME at the end of 2023 that The xx are currently back in the studio working on a “wide open” and “exciting” fourth studio album.
Romy has since updated NME about The xx’s time back in the studio together, sharing that they’ve “learned a lot from our different solo projects”.
The artist was speaking on the red carpet of the 2024 BRIT Awards, where she was nominated in the Best British Dance Act category on the night.
“We’ve been in the studio since I last spoke to NME and we’re in the studio again next week, so we’re meeting up regularly,” she said. “It’s been really good. I think we’ve all spent time apart and it’s healthy to miss each other.”
“We’re just keeping it really open and we’re up for trying new things, but it sounds like us. That’s all I can say right now.”
She continued that “to then have time apart and learn new skills, get new musical ideas and experiences and compare them… it’s been a healthy break”.
Romy is set to bring ‘Club Mid Air’ across the Atlantic for four North American dates in July and August, with shows in Washington, DC, Vancouver, Seattle and Portland. Any remaining tickets are available here.
