Watch Richard Gadd’s inspiring speech at the Emmys after ‘Baby Reindeer’ win
Richard Gadd has shared an inspiring and emotional speech at the 2024 Emmy Awards – see what he had to say below.
Gadd – who created, wrote and starred in Baby Reindeer – won the award for Outstanding Writing in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 2024 Emmys earlier this morning (September 15 in the US).
After accepting the award for the show – which is a dramatic retelling of his own experiences with a stalker – Gadd shared a glimmer of hope and inspiration to those in attendance and watching at home.
“Look, 10 years ago, I was down and out right? I never, ever thought I’d get my life together. I never, ever thought I’d be able to rectify myself for what had happened to me and get myself back on my feet again. And then here I am, just over a decade later picking up one of the biggest writing awards in television.”
He continued: “I don’t mean that to sound arrogant – I mean it as encouragement for anyone who’s going through a difficult time now to persevere. I don’t know much about life, I don’t know why we’re here; none of that. But I do know that nothing lasts forever and no matter how bad it gets, it always gets better. So if you’re struggling, keep going. Keep going and I promise you, things will be okay.”

The writing award was the first of three trophies Gadd took home for Baby Reindeer. Later in the night, he took home the awards for Outstanding Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Baby Reindeer was also crowned Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at this year’s Emmys – see the full list of winners here.
Baby Reindeer was a viewing smash following its arrival on Netflix earlier this year and topped global Netflix charts back in April. It spent a month atop the platform’s viewership rankings and was named Netflix’s 10th most-watched series of all time.
The series tells the story of a struggling comedian named Donny Dunn (based on Gadd) who is relentlessly stalked by an older woman named Martha.
