Watch Shawn Mendes join Coldplay on stage in Munich for ‘Fix You’
Shawn Mendes recently joined Coldplay on stage for a duet of the band’s track ‘Fix You’ in Munich, Germany – check out footage and photos below.
Last night (August 15), the ‘Mercy’ singer appeared as a special guest during the first night of Chris Martin and co’s three-night run at the Olympiastadion in Munich as part of their ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour. Mendes joined the band towards the end of their set and sang and played guitar on the 2005 hit.
Since the performance, old footage of Mendes from 2017 has been circling around on social media. The clip is from a Q and A session ahead of a show in which he is asked who he would like to open for one day. “If I could open up for another artist… I think it would be awesome to open up for Coldplay,” he said.

Another clip that’s been making rounds is of Mendes at a different Q and A session ahead of one of his shows in 2019 in which he talked about ‘Fix You’ and the song’s impact on him. “‘Fix You’ was always that song for me and that’s kind of the type of thing I was channelling when I was writing ‘In My Blood’,” he told the audience.
The appearance comes as just last week, Mendes released the lead single from his upcoming album, ‘Why Why Why’, alongside a second song ‘Isn’t That Enough‘. Both singles will appear on his self-titled album, ‘Shawn‘, which is set for release on October 18 via Island. You can pre-order/save it here.
Mendes has written and co-produced the album alongside Scott Harris, Mike Sabath (RAYE), Nate Mercereau (Andre 3000) and Eddie Benjamin, with additional songwriting from Amy Allen and Ethan Gruska (Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers).
Speaking about the record, Mendes has said: “Music really can be medicine. 2 years ago I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago I couldn’t step into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift.”
“Honestly thank god for my friends and family. Life can be brutal but having a small group of people you deeply trust to walk you through makes it so much better. I have no idea how I would have made it through the last couple years let alone make an album without you.”
The duet also came off the heels of Mendes’ limited run of intimate shows in Woodstock and London, performing ‘Shawn’ in its entirety. The show provided fans with a first look at his new music in the setting where it was created. These performances will continue in cities where Shawn recorded the new album, including Nashville, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and Seattle.
