Watch Slipknot play ‘Gematria (The Killing Name)’ for the first time ever in Melbourne
Slipknot played their 2008 track ‘Gematria (The Killing Name)’ for the first time ever this week – check out the footage below.
The band were playing the first of a mini-tour of Australia on Friday night (February 28) in Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse when they decided to dig into their catalogue to give the track its live debut.
‘Gematria (The Killing Name)’ was first released on their fourth studio album ‘All Hope Is Gone’ in 2008, and frontman Corey Taylor has said in the past that despite him loving the song himself, the rest of the band would never “never play it”, telling All Things Music in 2023: “Unless the Pope ends up opening up for Slipknot someday, that shit will never happen”.
Watch the moment that Taylor’s prediction was proven wrong below.
Slipknot’s Melbourne setlist on February 28:
- ‘(sic)’
- ‘People = Shit’
- ‘Gematria (The Killing Name)’ ‘Wait And Bleed’
- ‘No Life’
- ‘Yen’
- ‘The Devil In I’
- ‘The Heretic Anthem’
- ‘Psychosocial’
- ‘Unsainted’
- ‘Duality’
- ‘Spit It Out’
- ‘Surfacing’
- ‘Scissors’
Following their current run in Australia and New Zealand, the metal band will be heading to Europe for a continent-wide tour in June, which kicks off at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden on June 4. They will then make stops in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and Denmark. The band’s two final shows of the run will be comprised of their slots at Barcelona’s Rock Fest and Viveiro Ressurectionfest. Find any remaining tickets here.
They played a raucous show in London in December as part of their huge 25th anniversary tour. Taylor told the crowd: “The first thing I want to say to you is how grateful, how much we appreciate and how much we love every fucking one of you here in this building. 25 years ago, we released our very first Slipknot album and a lot of people around the world really gravitated towards us, but no one took us in like this fucking city and this fucking country. That’s why London, England will always be Slipknot’s home away from home.”
