Watch The Armed cover The Stooges’ ‘Search And Destroy’ at Bernie Sanders rally
The Armed have played a raucous cover of The Stooges’ ‘Search And Destroy’ at a Bernie Sanders rally in Michigan – watch below.
The left-wing US senator is currently on a tour he has dubbed ‘Fighting Oligarchy’, where he is taking to a series of town halls to address the state of American democracy. He has been inviting musical guests to open the shows and on Saturday (March 8), The Armed were on hand at Lincoln High School in Warren, Michigan.
They opened their set with a blistering version of the 1973 track by Michigan’s own Stooges. “This will be fun,” the band said by way of introduction. “This song is by The Stooges.”

Earlier in the ‘Fighting Oligarchy’ tour, Sanders welcomed acts including Poliça and Kinsella & Pulse, the new group from Laura Jane Grace.
The Armed’s Uriah Hackney has some experience with the song they covered, having played with Iggy Pop at California’s No Values Festival last year, alongside Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and others.
Last August, The Armed announced they were cancelling their scheduled US tour. “The finances of an indie band across the board are quite tenuous, and often dealt with in the aggregate,” they wrote. “And one (or in this case, several) things going wrong often has consequences down the line.”
The band’s fifth and to date most recent studio album was 2023’s ‘Perfect Saviors’. In a four-star review, NME wrote: “Among the many contributors to the album are Queens of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen (who co-produced the record), Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Pearl Jam’s Josh Klinghoffer, Beck and Nine Inch Nails’ Justin Meldal-Johnsen, David Bowie drummer Mark Guiliana, and Julien Baker.”
“Listening to ‘Perfect Saviors’, it’s no surprise that these big names jumped to be a part of of the collection. While their sound has become more accessible, it’s also as forward-thinking as we’ve come to expect of The Armed. They warp their influences and push them to the brink; beneath incredibly catchy hooks are complex layers of sound, giving each song unique scope and intensity. If their previous albums sounded like hardcore on steroids and deranged, this is the same for their brand of rock-and-roll.”
