Newsreader Ros Atkins has shared footage of himself spinning a drum & bass remix of the BBC News theme at Glastonbury.

Atkins, who’s known for his ‘explainer’ videos, performed a DJ set at the Stonebridge bar over the weekend.

Sharing the remix at the end of his set, which featured drum & bass DJ Crissy Criss, he wrote: “Thanks for the messages about a recording of my Glastonbury set. I do have some clips. When I contacted @davidlowemusic2 and @CrissyCriss about a Drum&Bass remix of the BBC News theme, it was with the idea of playing it at the end of my set. This was the moment I got to do that.” You can view it below.

It comes after he announced last month that he was “astonished” to be on the line-up for this year’s festival.

Ahead of his performance, Atkins explained how he got the gig. It started in 2022, when he discussed his past DJ’ing in an interview. He was then asked by BBC Radio producer Matt Tasker if he’d like to do a set, while Soho venue The Social also asked him if he’d like to do a gig.

Some of Atkins’ drum & bass “heroes” also contacted him, including Ray Keith, who gave him a lesson. He said: “For two hours, Ray ran me through everything from the kit, to mixing techniques, to tune selection. I soaked it all up, taking notes as we went along. In this shot, I’ve the look of a man who can’t quite believe what is happening. Which was very much the case.”

He explained that he worked with Keith to figure out what equipment he needed to practice at home.

Following his gig at The Social, Atkins was invited to play at Glastonbury alongside huge names including Annie Mac, Idris Elba, Rudimental and Groove Armada.

Atkins has spoken before about being a fan of hardcore and drum’n’bass music in the ‘90s, saying he regularly went to raves in Cornwall at the time. He later had a DJ career in Brixton, inspired by the likes of LTJ Bukem and DJ Hype.
