Watch the moment Liam Gallagher covered Noel’s Oasis-era ‘Lock All The Doors’ on ‘Definitely Maybe’ 30th anniversary tour
This past weekend, Liam Gallagher covered his brother Noel‘s Oasis-era ‘Lock All The Doors’ demo – watch fan-shot footage of the performance below.
On June 1, Liam kicked off his ‘Definitely Maybe’ 30th anniversary tour, during which he performed every song from the 1994 album with his band – several of which were the first time ever he’s performed them outside of Oasis – along with B-sides from that era.
One of those songs was the demo version of ‘Lock All The Doors’. In 1994, Noel had written and recorded a demo version of ‘Lock All The Doors’, which never got completed. In 2014, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds had reconfigured the track for the album ‘Chasing Yesterday’.
Watch Liam’s cover of ‘Lock All The Doors’ below.
Speaking in 2014 about the song he took decades to complete, Noel said: “There’s a song on [‘Chasing Yesterday’] that’s taken me 23 years to finish, it’s called ‘Lock All The Doors’. I gave a bit of it away to The Chemical Brothers in the ’90s when we did ‘Setting Sun’ and I always meant to finish it off.”
Noel continued: “I kept the chorus but I could never find a way of getting the verse to tie in with this chorus. One afternoon I was coming out the Tesco Metro where I live in Maida Vale, and I don’t know what it was but it just hit me, coming round the corner, just by Boots, it came to me in a flash of inspiration. This song was never released by Oasis, but the chorus is so fucking brilliant I never gave up on it.”
Elsewhere during Liam’s ‘Definitely Maybe’ set, he dedicated 1994 B-side ‘Half the World Away’ to “my little brother” Noel, who recorded lead vocals on the track. Check out footage of ‘Half The World Away’ and more footage from his entire show here.
Today (June 3), Liam Gallagher will perform another show at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff before kicking off a four-show residency at The O2 in London. See the full list of his remaining tour dates below and find any remaining tickets here.
