ITZY wreak havoc in new ‘CAKE’ music video
K-pop girl group ITZY have released the music video for the single ‘CAKE’ from their new mini-album ‘Kill My Doubt’.
On July 31 at 6pm KST, the quintet made a comeback with their new single ‘CAKE’, the lead single of their new mini-album ‘Kill My Doubt’. The new single is written and produced by Black Eyed Pilseung, the duo behind girl group STAYC, and producers of SISTAR’s ‘Touch My Body’, TWICE’s ‘Fancy’ and Apink’s ‘Dumhdurum’.
In the new music video, the ITZY members create trouble in different scenes, from walking into a movie set to causing minor accidents. As the world seems to fall apart around them, the girl group continue to sing and dance happily to the song.
“Maybe, it’s not easy anyway / Up to you, everyday / Instead of worrying, just focus on yourself now / It’s all fine, I think it’s easy peasy / Alright alright, just eat it all up down yeah, like, cake,” they sing on the chorus.
In addition to ‘CAKE’, ITZY also dropped music videos for the songs ‘Bet On Me’ and ‘None of My Business’ ahead of the release. Other B-sides on ‘Kill My Doubt’ include ‘Bratty’, ‘Psychic Lover’ and ‘Kill Shot’.
‘Kill My Doubt’ marks ITZY’s first release of 2023, arriving eight months after their sixth mini-album ‘Cheshire’, which dropped last November.
In a three-star review of the record, NME’s Gladys Yeo praised the its title track and B-sides, but criticised the “painfully juvenile” lyrics for pre-release single ‘Boys Like You’. She added that “the weaknesses of ‘Cheshire’ are few but glaring”, making it “difficult to overlook in a four-track project”.
