Watch the trailer for the upcoming Netflix docu-series about KATSEYE
Netflix has released the first trailer for Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE, a new docu-series about the making of girl group KATSEYE.
The upcoming Netflix series will chronicle the year-long process that went into the creation of KATSEYE under the notoriously intense K-pop trainee system. According to the streamer, the series will give “unprecedented access” to KATSEYE’s “journey to global stardom”, per People.
“You’re already good, I need you to be better,” a choreographer says in the opening moments of Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE. Later on, a commentator says: “The people that created BTS have this vision to take the ‘K’ out of K-pop and make it global.”
Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE will debut August 21 exclusively on Netflix.
The girl group made their official debut in June with the aptly titled single, ‘Debut’. last month, they dropped their second single ‘Touch’. Both songs will appear on their debut EP, ‘SIS (Soft Is Strong)’, which will be released on August 16, just days before the docu-series’ premiere.
KATSEYE are a six-member group – made up of Manon, Sophia, Daniela, Lara, Megan and Yoonchae – that were formed through the YouTube reality talent competition The Debut: Dream Academy. The series, which ran for 12 weeks, followed 20 contestants as they competed for a place in the group.
In a previous interview with NME, KATSEYE’s Manon shared that despite the “hard times”, the experience she got through The Debut: Dream Academy was “always super worth it”. She added: “I had so much fun – and still do – and was really set in my decision of becoming an artist.”
