Watch Tyler, the Creator Win His 8th Grade Talent Show Dancing to Omarion in Throwback Footage
Tyler, the Creator always had the moves. The Grammy-winning artist posted some throwback footage from middle school on Sunday (Dec. 1), in which he won a talent show for his choreographed dance routine to Omarion’s “Touch.”
The clip finds Tyler effortlessly gliding across the stage and pointing to the girls in the crowd while hitting the “Pop, Lock & Drop It” signature dance.
At one point he even had his female classmates screaming for him in the audience. It appears he took home some hardware as well, with his name being deemed the winner.
“8th Grade,” he captioned the video. Fans gave him props in his replies on X too.
“Footage of someone who always knew what they’re destined to be,” one person wrote.
Another chimed in: “Tyler been winning since he was a kid!”
Tyler has never been shy about his fandom of The Neptunes, as they produced “Touch” from Omarion’s 2005 O album. The single also features ethereal background vocals from Pharrell, which went on to reach No. 95 on the Billboard Hot 100.
It seems the California native is feeling nostalgic, as he’s possibly looking to get his hands on his kindergarten yearbook, and is asking for help from the public. “Did anyone go to GARR kindergarten off of vermont in los angeles 1996-1997,” he tweeted in search of his classmates on Monday (Dec. 2).
Tyler, the Creator is coming off the arrival of his Chromakopia album, which spent three consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 after debuting in late October with 299,500 equivalent units earned in about a half of a tracking week.
