Watch Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer cover Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ at ‘SNL 50’ concert

Saturday Night Live alumni Ana Gasteyer and Will Ferrell returned to the programme for its 50th anniversary concert, performing a comedy version of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’.

SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, held in front of a packed Radio City Music Hall on Friday (February 14), saw a host of stars both in the audience and on stage to celebrate the American sketch show. Among them were Ferrell and Gasteyer, who reprised their characters from the show – music teachers Marty and Bobbi Culp.

“It’s actually Valentine’s Day. So we invite you all to snuggle under a musical blanket of sensual funk and some mad fresh beats that slap… No cap” Gasteyer’s Bobbi said. Ferrell’s Bobbi followed with a joke inspired by the Kendrick Lamar and Drake feud that inspired ‘Not Like Us’.

 

“Are Kenny Lamar and Drake Graham in the house?” he asked the audience. “By the way, maybe you two can hug it out tonight in the name of love and fellowship. No? Not in hell. Message received”. They then followed with a hilarious rendition of the song, which was received warmly by the crowd.

Having reached number one last year on the Billboard 100, interest in the diss track has surged due to it being a high point of Lamar’s record-breaking Super Bowl halftime show.

SNL50: The Homecoming Concert preceded Sunday’s (February 16) three-hour 50th Anniversary special, and as well as The Culps featured Post Malone performing with the remaining members of Nirvana, and Lady Gaga singing alongside comedy band The Lonely Island.

During the anniversary episode itself, superstars of the past and present Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter sang ‘Homeward Bound’ together; Jack White performed ‘Seven Nation Army’; and Paul McCartney made his fifth appearance on the show to perform a medley of songs from The Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’.
